Discovering and teaching mathematics

Ideas Exchange, University of Birmingham (10/07/2011).

The Ideas Exchange was a residential weekend which I ran for those interested in teaching mathematics to share and discuss ideas. I spoke about the difference between the way mathematics is discovered and the way it is taught, the effect this may have on student confidence around being stuck and the effect this may, in turn, have on developing problem solving skills.

I teach mathematics at Sheffield Hallam University and am a researcher focused on higher education mathematics educational practice. Find out more about Peter Rowlett. This website also houses lists of my publications and talks I have given.
